Behind the Blueprint: Why the Barnard Project is a Rose Hill Favorite

There is a distinct threshold where a backyard pool crosses over from a home improvement project into a feat of architectural engineering. When our team at Rose Hill Builders first sat down to blueprint the Barnard project, we knew it was going to be one of those standout transformations - a sprawling, structural masterpiece designed for a family that loves to host, relax, and appreciate the raw beauty of natural style stonework.

Bringing a vision of this magnitude to life - and carving it seamlessly into a landscape already surrounded by huge, beautiful mature trees - requires a perfect balance of expansive water design and heavy structural masonry.

The Layout: Maximizing the Footprint for Seamless Entertaining

The foundation of the Barnard oasis begins with a massive footprint. We designed a clean, stately rectangular pool stretching 25 feet wide by 38 feet long. A pool of this size provides the ultimate canvas for multi-tier entertainment, allowing for a seamless flow between high energy swimming and deep relaxation.

Built directly inside the pool perimeter sits a custom 7ft x 9ft inset spa, designed to offer an intimate, therapeutic escape while keeping you entirely connected to the main body of water. To frame the spa and maximize the home's sun soaking real estate, we frame it with dual 8ft x 14ft sundecks on either side. It creates a symmetrical, resort style lounging footprint where parents can relax on submerged ledge loungers while keeping a watchful eye on the deep end.

Moving Mountains: 17,000 lb. Dolese Waterfall & Grotto

While the water layout sets a luxurious tone, the true crown jewel of the Barnard property is the custom rock grotto and waterfall installation. We wanted to create a feature that felt entirely native to the landscape - something permanent, commanding, and rich with texture.

To achieve this, we engineered a 10ft x 10ft subterranean grotto topped with a roaring, multi-tier waterfall system. For the stone, we sourced premium manufactured rock from the experts at Dolese, ensuring the formation possessed the rugged, timeless look of natural Oklahoma boulders with the structural integrity required to redirect thousands of gallons of moving water.

The logistics of the waterfall installation were nothing short of monumental. The formation features a single, breathtaking primary slab that weighed in at a jaw dropping 17,000 pounds. Crane operating a stone of that magnitude into a residential backyard requires precision engineering, a rock-solid foundation, and a team that understands how to safely marry heavy duty masonry with delicate pool plumbing.

Form, Function, and Fresh Air

When the pumps are turned on, the Barnard backyard completely transforms. The sound of the massive Dolese waterfall cascading over the grotto roof creates a natural acoustic barrier, blocking out the outside world and enveloping the patio in a soothing, private soundscape. Because the home is nestled within a canopy of towering trees, the space feels less like a residential backyard and more like a hidden woodland sanctuary. Whether the family is swimming beneath the cool shade of the 10x10 grotto, relaxing in the heated inset spa, or watching the sunset from the dual sundecks, the space delivers a masterclass in modern outdoor living.

At Rose Hill Builders, we move mountains to create spaces where your family can build a lifetime of memories.
